Stainless steel re-bars to support grass-reinforced-concrete (GRC) outer
panels of Keidan-ren Building
Applicant: Asahi Building Wall Co., Ltd.
Reason for selection:
GRC panels, due to their light weight and improved strength as well as adjustability to various designs, were selected for the captioned building. Since concrete used in GRC is a special, low-alkali type, clasps and carbon steel commonly installed for reinforcement and support are treated for rust resistance. But for this project, the ferritic stainless steel type described below was selected due to its high corrosion resistance, consistent quality and cost advantages:
Stainless steel re-bars are now more widely used for such applications
since they offer improved designability, reduces the quantity of concrete
components and helps make them compact. This project is expected to be
another stimulus for further use of stainless steel in the ABC sector in
the future.
