Reason for selection: As a way of saving fuel for environmental considerations, the use of GDI
(gasoline direct injection) is gaining popularity. For improving the fuel
efficiency and reducing the emission of the GDI engine, higher fuel pressure
is required. To enable this adjustment through making the pump with higher
pressure, the flange, an important item conventionally composed of multiple
parts welded, must be produced by means of integral molding for reduced
welds and increased toughness.
The flange is a high-performance component required to have plastic workability,
machinability, strength and weldability with other components. The adoption
of a ferritic stainless steel grade (NSSC180) has made the integral molding
of flange possible and has led to a success in mass production and market
introduction of this critical component.
Commercial production of pumps of high-stiffness through proper processing
of the proper stainless steel grade is expected to make a significant contribution
to reducing global environmental burdens.
