Reason for selection:
Kawaguchi City in Saitama Prefecture was in need of a countermeasure against
floods due to swollen river water, damaging nearby residences, stores,
parks and other facilities.
One option was to add more concrete walls. But this was later found impractical
because there were too many rivers to deal with, the cost would be prohibitive
and the construction time too long. Besides, since the concrete walls have
certain thickness, they would make the roads that much narrower in some
places and affect the traffic.
Then, the City came up with an idea of setting up stainless steel walls.
The applicant grabbed such development and after taking appearance, construction,
cost and delivery time into account, offered a solution with overflow prevention
fences of stainless steel. The fences are reasonably priced, strong and
can be supplied in short lead times and installed at any place. The City
has accepted this proposal.The
construction is scheduled to start in fiscal 2021, first in the areas most
severely hit and to continue at a pace of 300 meters a year.
