Reason for selection:
Construction of flood mitigation dams is studied nationwide as a part of the National Resilience Plan in light of rises in downpours and landslides due to the climate change of these years. The use of the below-referenced type in Tateno Dam is expected to lead to increased consumption of duplex stainless steel with high strength and wear resistance.
Dams are composed of a number of devices including discharge pipes, regulating plates and discharge gates/screens so that they may regulate the water flow and capture drifting woods/stones when floods occur. As these devices are subjected to shocks caused by raging streams and rocks/stones, they are required to have high strength and wear resistance. Against this background, for the construction of the captioned dam, SUS821L1 has been selected instead of the conventional stainless steel type of SUS304 due to its superior characteristics.
Major advantages of the selection are the use of lighter-gauge material leading to reduced weights and lower construction costs. In addition, SUS821L1 contributes to longer product lives of the devices,.
