“Daiichi Meta Maru”, Japan’s First Methanol-fueled Bunkering Ship

Reason for selection:
“Daiichi Meta Maru”(Metal Maru #1) is Japan’s first methanol-fueled coastal ship. The ship is currently used for domestic transportation of methanol. With methanol also used as its fuel, the emission of SOx, CO2 and NOx is drastically reduced and it serves as an environment-friendly next-generation bunkering vessel contributing to the society.
Stainless steel has been adopted for the methanol supply system and the cargo tank of the ship due to its high corrosion resistance. This is a new area of demand, which is expected to work for future growth and increased social contribution of the metal.
