Reason for selection:
The above reservoir is the first facility in Japan where SUS821L1, a new type of duplex stainless steel type, has been used.
The size of the reservoir is ⏀23.4m X 9.753mH and the capacity is 3,500m3.
Approximately 50,000 Kgs of SUS821L1 are used for the liquid phase, the roof and the floor sections. Major characteristics of this stainless steel type include high strength, about two times stronger that of SUS304 and corrosion resistance, about equal to or stronger than that of SUS304. In addition, the lower Ni content works to reduce environmental burdens and to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society. Compared with #1 reservoir in service where SUS304 is used, the quantity of the steel material consumed is reduced by approximately 18%, which leads to “saving resources”. These advantages make SUS821L1 an ideal type to be used in water-related facilities.
Besides, the reservoir serves as a field trip spot for children and as an important landmark infrastructure of the city, which is another contribution to the local community.
