Fine Black Finish

Applicant: Nippon Kinzoku Co., Ltd.
Reason for selection:
In the current automotive exterior molding market with diversified customers’ tastes for colors and designs, needs for black color with metallic touch unattainable with existing coating or taping have sharply risen. To respond to such needs, the applicant has developed stainless steel sheets of “FB” finish with metallic touch and depth.
Chemical coloring technique is used, which forms oxide film on the surface of the stainless steel sheet and through utilizing interference phenomenon and absorptive effect of light, black color is generated. The applicant’s coloring technique has succeeded in suppressing color spots associated with the Inco Coloring and in mass-producing stable and deep black color with metallic touch. . Furthermore, FB-finished coils may be continuously formed and processed like conventional BA- finished products and the same stamping dies may be used for both finishes, resulting in lower processing and initial costs compared with such decorative techniques as coating and taping.
