Reason for selection:
The captioned gate-shaped stainless steel monument erected at the center of the seaside area of the above Plaza is 17m wide and 18m high from the water surface, where a show focused on “Water and Air” was held. Taking into account the salt damage of the seawater,SUS329J1, a high-strength duplex stainless steel with superb corrosion resistance, has been adopted for the exterior sides of the monument, The stainless steel is mirror-finished for esthetic reflection of water and light of the show.
The stainless steel panels of such finish are 1,200mm in width and 5,400mm in length apiece and heavy, which required an articulate installation plan.
Besides, there was no precedent of mirror-finishing SUS329J1 and the companies involved made strenuous efforts and have succeeded in realizing the beautiful finish.
The use of stainless steel for the monument, one of the features of the Expo, is expected to open up new areas of decorative applications of the metal.
