(A book about stainless steel)
Applicant: Sakagami Naoya&Art Associates Yata

Reason for selection:
This book has been written for general readers with creative thoughts - particularly those in their 30fs and 40fs. The author, with intents to express stainless steel in architectural space, contacted a stainless steel maker some years ago and through good relationships built between them has succeeded in having a number of gstainless steel eggsh hatched. Such wonderful and incredible things which he has experienced are what he wishes to convey to readers.
Two basic ingredients are, of course, a youth with a strong will ? the author ? and a stainless steel maker which accommodated him. And another equally important ingredient is special characteristics of stainless steel which has worked to connect them. It seems that stainless steel, an alloy which is produced by hands of many people, is destined to go through hands of many people when it is introduced to the outside world.
In this book, with ideas of the author and ingenuities of engineers and workers in the shop, heavy and hard stainless steel is made to look varied - sometimes light, sometimes rainbow-colored and even transparent in other times.
Compiling relevant information in a single book is expected to give readers an overview of the authorfs work to date and at the same time to encourage creative people to give stainless steel an important role in crafting rich urban landscape.
